Blue California has completed GRAS certification for its BlueSweet LHG extract. Blue California's GRAS self affirmation is based on the FDA requirements for GRAS status companies must follow in order to ensure the safety of an ingredient for use in food products.The natural sweetener trademarked as BlueSweet™ is derived from Luo Han Guo, also known as monk fruit. This edible fruit has been traditionally consumed in China and is known for its sweet flavor as well as its expectorant and antitussive properties. According to company officials, BlueSweet LHG Extract, standardized to Mogroside V, is a natural alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners. BlueSweet LHG is said to be 300 times sweeter than sugar, offers excellent solubility, stability and almost zero-calories. This ingredient can be produced in different concentrations to meet the requirements for flavors, beverages and a variety of food applications.
