PepsiCo to Close PopCorners Plant in Liberty, New York

Feb. 20, 2025
Facility’s long-term viability was not sustainable with the pace of growth for the snack food brand and industry at large, company claims.

According to local news outlets, PepsiCo Foods is closing its snack-foods processing plant in Liberty, N.Y.

The company issued a statement confirming the shutdown, saying the plant “played a vital role in producing our beloved PopCorners brand,” but that the facility’s long-term viability was not sustainable at the pace of growth with the product and in the industry in general.

Pace of growth aside, PepsiCo did post troubling results across all its North American business segments in fiscal 2024, as discussed during the company’s presentation at the Consumer Analyst Group of New York (CAGNY) conference. Its extreme success in 2024 in Europe helped overshadow the North American results.

Workers at the plant had been notified, the company said, and it would work to provide transition support moving forward. The timing of the closure and actual number of workers impacted was not confirmed, but one news outlet cited an unidentified employee of the facility, who said 300 workers would lose their jobs as of April.
