Lightlife Reinvents Lunchtime Staple with Plant Protein
With the majority of Americans (65 percent) believing that plant protein can be just as hearty and satisfying as animal protein, according to a December 2016 survey of 1,047 adults, Lightlife is reinventing a classic lunchtime staple with a vegetarian twist. New Lightlife Veggie Deli Slices are designed to replace meat and cheese in sandwiches. A three-slice serving packs in 11g of plant protein along with 90 calories, 3g fat and 2g fiber, positioning the slices as a better-for-you sandwich maker. However, like meat and cheese, these slices contain ample sodium: 340mg (15 percent of the Daily Value). The vegan product comes in two flavors--White Bean & Kale and Chickpea & Red Pepper—with a 5.5-oz. pack selling for $3.29 to $3.59.
“We’ve taken familiar foods and flavors, like hummus and kale, to create something fun, delicious and unexpected in an effort to bring new consumers into the booming plant protein category,” says Brad Lahrman, vice president of marketing. “The veggie deli slices provide vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians with more variety when it comes to amping up their lunch routine.”
