Pneumatic conveying systems are quite similar to vacuum cleaning systems and the same general design data applies to both. However, there are a few important differences in application.
The major difference is in the amount of solids conveyed. A pneumatic conveying system frequently handles as great or a greater weight of solid materials than the weight of the conveying air. The increased quantity of handled solids results in higher pressure drops, increased erosion and more difficult dust collection problems, all of which call for slightly different treatment than in the case of the vacuum cleaning system.
