Facility will continue to produce other Hormel products, but precooked bacon processing will shift to other company facilities.

Hormel Foods will lay off 135 workers at its Tucker, Ga., facility, according to news reports citing a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice.

Hormel has decided to stop producing bacon at the facility due to the age of the equipment there and the investment that would be required to upgrade it, a company spokesperson was cited as saying. Bacon production would shift to other Hormel facilities from the Tucker plant, which was built in 1969.

The Tucker plant also produces Hormel chili and Dinty Moore stew, employing 400 workers, according to the report. The layoffs will begin on Oct. 26, 2025, and will be completed within two weeks. The company expects laid-off workers to be eligible for severance pay.
