Dennis Organ, recently CEO of Smithfield Foods, has been named president of Maple Leaf Foods’ Pork Complex, essentially heading all of Maple Leaf’s pork business.
Organ has more than 27 years in the food industry, including 11 years with pork processor Smithfield Foods, where he held a variety of management titles. He was named CEO in November 2020 but resigned in July 2021.
The announcement of Organ's hiring noted it was connected to recent changes to Maple Leaf’s senior leadership. CEO Michael McCain, a member of the family that owns a majority of Maple Leaf, is due to transition to executive director of the company’s board this spring. The new CEO will be Curtis Frank, currently president and chief operating officer, a 21-year Maple Leaf veteran.
