July 25, 2024
John Bortells will become the new CCO, and CPG veteran Becky O’Grady joins the alternative protein processor’s board.

Alternative protein processor Meati has announced it has added John Bortells and Becky O’Grady to its leadership as chief commercial officer and board member, respectively. Meati hopes these two new leaders will help the company reach its goals through their passion for Meati’s mission and their expertise scaling brands to national success.

As chief commercial officer, Bortells is expected to focus on driving revenue and expanding the market for the company’s mycelium-based protein products. Bortells will manage the sales, marketing and customer experience. He brings experience across an extremely wide berth of types and styles of companies in various food-related channels and businesses. He has worked with a2 Milk, Clover Sonoma, Mighty Leaf Tea and PepsiCo.

O’Grady joins the board with a long history in consumer packaged goods industry — most of her career having been spent at General Mills. She is also a board member for Tropicale Foods, La-Z-Boy Inc., Ripple Foods and Halo Branded Solutions.

In February this year, Meati elevated Phil Graves to CEO of the company from his position as CFO, to which he'd been appointed earlier that month.
