Consumer Brands Names Melissa Hockstad President & CEO

She comes from American Cleaning Institute and replaces David Chavern, who is leaving for another job.

Melissa Hockstad will become president/CEO of Consumer Brands Assn. on Jan. 6, 2025, taking over for David Chavern, who was named president/CEO of American Council of Life Insurers in September.

Hockstad joins Consumer Brands from her role as president/CEO of the American Cleaning Institute. She led ACI since 2017, advancing policies in support of the $60 billion U.S. cleaning product supply chain.

In her 25 years of executive experience, she also held leadership roles at the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, the Plastics Industry Association, the Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates and Basell Polyolefins (now LyondellBasell). In 2023, Hockstad was named Association Executive of the Year by Association Trends and CEO Update.

Chavern became the organization’s CEO in January 2023, after serving as president/CEO of News Media Alliance.

Consumer Brands Assn., formerly the Grocery Manufacturers Assn., is a U.S. trade association advocating for manufacturers of all types of consumer packaged goods.
