Jennifer Mann ‘Relinquishes’ Leadership of Coca-Cola’s Biggest Business Unit
Jennifer Mann will relinquish her titles as a Coca-Cola Co. executive vice president and president of the North America Operating Unit, the company’s largest, on Aug. 1. However, she will stay with the company through April 2027 as an advisor “to ensure a smooth transition.”
The company phrased it as a “leadership transition.” John Murphy, president and CFO, will assume responsibility for the North America Operating Unit on an interim basis, although a search is on for Mann’s successor.
Mann has worked 29 years at the beverage company and began leading Coke's largest operating unit on Jan. 1, 2023. “Under her leadership, the North America Operating Unit has delivered strong revenue and profit growth,” today’s company statement said.
But strong enough? Coke’s financial reports aren’t explicit, but it looks like sales at her unit grew by $900 million last year, all due to price increases, while volume declined 1%, as it did across most of the company’s businesses. The North America unit also took a $960 million impairment charge last year against the BodyArmor trademark.
Maybe the biggest factor was change at the very top: Henrique Braun on March 31 was promoted to CEO, replacing eight-year CEO James Quincey. Mann was Quincey’s chief of staff from 2015 to 2018.
Mann joined Coca‑Cola in 1997 as a manager in the National Customer Support division of North America. Over her 29 years, she served in roles of increasing responsibility spanning operations and customer relationship. From 2019 until leading North America, Mann was president of Global Ventures, including Costa Coffee and Coca‑Cola’s investment in Monster Beverage Corp. She served as SVP and chief people officer from 2017 until 2019. Other leadership roles include Coca‑Cola Freestyle, Coca‑Cola Refreshments and McDonald's Customer & Consumer Operations.
