Food Biz Kids: Tropical Foods' Snack Pack Trail Mix

Guilherme Quivy, 8th grade:
When our teacher told us we were having Snack Packs for our food review, I wasn't really happy. But after receiving it, I started liking it because I saw the [candy-coated chocolate bits] from the see-through part of the package. I liked the peanuts combined with the [chocolate bits] — it had a really unique taste. But based only on the name of the product and the outside package, I don't think I would buy it in the store.

Rebecca Bernstein, 8th grade:
The packaging is sort of ugly. The box kind of looks like dog food, and the bag has a pirate thing going on, which doesn't have anything to do with the snack. But they taste SO good! It's probably the best trail mix I have ever had.

Shiyi Tang, 8th grade
The packaging seems boring and dull on the outside, but when it's opened, the more appealing map picture looks tropical. The yellow package is easy to open. The mix has a chewy taste to every nut, [candy-coated chocolate bits] and raisins. The little chocolate pieces inside are softer than the usual chocolate pieces. The raisin is covered with a salty taste from the nuts, but is sweet and full inside.

Jack Grant, 8th grade:
The French Quarter's snack packaging is awesome because you can see through it. The bag is hard to open and appeals to old people. The nuts taste weird, but the raisins are psychedelic baby!

Haley Chill, 8th grade:
The packaging is really boring; when a box is dark, it isn't very appealing. I don't think it would appeal to kids because of that. But they taste really good. I like the Gold Nugget Crunch the best.

Sarah Maloney-Franke, 8th grade:
The packaging isn't too appealing, but the snacks make up for it. They are healthy and taste good. I like how they combine chocolate and healthier foods like nuts and raisins. The taste isn't amazing, but it's good if you're looking for something on the healthier side.

Claire McDonald, 8th grade:
Packaging of these Snack Packs is sort of a boring color; I think a brighter, more cheery color would be more appealing. Also, there is no really good way to open the package. I think there should be a tab to pull. I like how they have salty and sweet foods in them, so you get a good mixture. Overall, I think it's a fairly good product.

Rachel Biechman, 8th grade:
The packaging on this product is kind of ugly; they need a color that is bright. Brown is just not a good color for snackers. The packages are easy to open, so I liked that. I think these will appeal to climbers or athletic types. The mix of raisins, nuts and chocolate in the Sunburst mix really works together, and the candy-coated chocolate makes it colorful and bright. This product just needs a more eye-catching package.

Sage Siser, 8th grade:
The Gold Nugget Crunch package is gold, but I don't think it is very appealing to the eye. It should be more colorful to attract more kids. The snacks taste salty and sweet at the same time. It's weird, because the salty snacks taste like sugar and chocolate, and that's different. The peanuts taste like peanuts, not sweet, and the chocolate chips taste like salt. Everything's backwards, but it still tastes good. When you eat it all together, it really tastes good — with sugar and salt together.

Nathan Port, 8th grade:
The packaging of French Quarter is pretty appealing, but it should have more colors, not just yellow. The combination of nuts is good, but the cracker should be crunchier. I don't think another trail mix is needed, but it would be good for a tasty snack after a soccer game.

Ardon Kelly Lowenstein, 8th grade:
The packaging is good, with a palm tree and the map is cool. I like being able to see through the packaging, and it's easy to open – but small. The mixture is trail mix plus. Its taste is a salty, nutty, chocolate blend. All I recommend is a larger package.

Jessie Powell, 8th grade:
I think the packaging is good; it's easy to open and is packaged well. The chocolate bits, raisins and peanuts taste very good in Sunburst. It's very salty and sweet, which is a good combination. I think this is a good snack for when you're on the go.

Simone Dac, 8th grade:
The package looks like a map to me. I like this snack because it's healthy and tastes delicious. It smells like peanut butter and chocolate. The only thing I do not like is the almonds. It needs more chocolate.

Billy Prout, 8th grade:
I think the packaging is great for Gold Nugget Crunch. It appeals to everyone and is also easy to open. I like the sweet and salty combination, and I also think this product is needed.
