J & J Snack Foods Corp., Pennsauken, N.J., in April unveiled an agreement to buy the frozen handheld business of ConAgra Foods, Omaha, Neb. The business makes dough-enrobed products sold under the brands Patio, Hand Fulls, Holly Ridge Bakery, Villa Taliano and Top Picks, plus private label products. Included are manufacturing facilities in Holly Ridge, N.C., and Weston, Ore.

The two USDA-approved manufacturing facilities offer a wide variety of enrobed products, from sweet to savory, healthy or indulgent, as well as individual retail or bulk foodservice packs, a J&J statement read. J&J makes SuperPretzels, Minute Maid and Barq’s frozen juice bars and ices (under license) and foodservice products Icee and Slush Puppie.

“This is a fine line of products that will expand our portfolio of brands to existing and new venues,” said Gerald Shreiber, president/CEO of J & J Snack Foods. Closing of the transaction is expected to be in May.
