A 34-year old man was arrested recently following a discovery that he had stolen 42,000 pounds of pistachios. According to reports, Alberto Montemayor was hiding the pistachios in a tractor trailer nearby where he had been repackaging them to sell.
Authorities were called after Touchstone Pistachio Company discovered during an audit that it was missing the 21 tons of nuts. According to the American Pistachio Growers, the missing nuts were worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Reports indicate that Montemayor was "bailed out" and that he would likely appear in court in several weeks.
