Most of six new products also are gluten-free and/or vegetarian.
Campbell Soup Co. on Feb. 5 introduced its first line of organic soups, Campbell’s Organic -- six premium, ready-to-eat soups made with USDA certified organic ingredients. The line includes vegetarian and gluten-free varieties.
The soups are "certified organic," meaning they contain at least 95–99 percent organic ingredients (by weight). The remaining ingredients are not available organically but have been approved by the National Organic Program.
The flavors are Chicken Noodle, Sun-Ripened Tomato and Basil, Chicken Tortilla, Lentil, Garden Vegetable with Herbs and Creamy Butternut Squash. They're packaged in 17-oz. aseptic paperboard cartons and are priced at $2.99-$3.29.
The company noted the majority (81 percent) of American families already are choosing organic foods at least sometimes, and more than half (53 percent) of Americans ages 18-29 are actively trying to include organic foods in their diets.
