M&Ms Adds New Color (and Spokescandy) to Its Lineup

Sept. 28, 2022
Purple, which is designed to represent acceptance and inclusivity, is the first addition to the spokescandy crew in over a decade.

For the first time in more than a decade, M&Ms is expanding its lineup of 'spokescandies,' with the addition of Purple M&M. Described as having an "optimistic outlook, quirky nature, and authentic charm," Mars, the company that makes the M&M brand, says its the new candy serves as a reminder for people to embrace their true selves.

Earlier this year, Mars refreshed and revamped the looks -- and some personality quirks -- of its spokescandies to make them more inclusive. In an email, Mars claims Purple "represents acceptance and inclusivity with her earnest self-expression." She's also the third female character, joining Green and Brown, in the seven spokescandy crew.

"Our new character reminds us to celebrate what makes us unique," said Jane Hwang, Global Vice President at Mars Wrigley.
