Anheuser-Busch InBev U.S. Chief Marketing Officer to Resign as Bud Light Still Slides

Nov. 16, 2023
CMO Benoit Garbe will leave the company at the end of the year, a casualty of the backlash over the Dylan Mulvaney partnership and response.

As Bud Light beer sales continue to slide, Anheuser-Busch InBev has announced that its U.S. chief marketing officer, Benoit Garbe, will resign at the end of this year. Backlash over the brand’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney and the company’s response to the initial customer complaints has tanked sales of the beer in the U.S. AB InBev reported a 13.5% decline in third-quarter U.S. revenue per 100 liters.

The entire debacle has cost AB InBev dearly, with Bud Light losing its longtime spot as the top-selling beer in America after the controversy and overall sales to U.S. retailers declining nearly 17% “primarily due to the volume decline of Bud Light,” according to reports.

The company announced that U.S. chief commercial officer Kyle Norrington will oversee marketing in place of Garbe moving forward.
