Pet Food Co-Manufacturer Alphia Inc. Joins PAI Partners’ Portfolio

Aug. 25, 2023
PAI has agreed to acquire Denver-based co-manufacturer of pet food and treats from private-equity firm J.H. Whitney Capital Partners.

Ownership of North American pet-food co-manufacturer Alphia Inc. will change hands from one private-equity firm to another, with PAI Partners agreeing to acquire the Denver-based company from J.H. Whitney Capital Partners.

According to a release from PAI, Alphia produces more than one billion pounds of dry pet food and treats annually, and provides milling, R&D, innovation, warehousing, transportation and distribution services as well. It has six U.S. manufacturing facilities and offers a fully integrated, “farm-to-bowl” solution for customers, as it is the parent company of an ingredient milling company (LANI) and a warehousing and logistics firm (Veracity).

Alphia was formed in 2020 from the merger of American Nutrition Inc. with C.J. Foods Inc. under J.H. Whitney’s ownership. C.J. Foods was acquired by J.H. Whitney in 2014. Alphia will join pet food companies represented in PAI’s portfolio including investments in Royal Canin, Provimi, Diana Pet Food and Refresco.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
