Cal-Maine Foods Inc. announced it has completed the acquisition of the former Tyson Foods broiler processing plant, hatchery and feed mill in Dexter, Mo., according to a release from the company. Tyson closed the facility in 2023, one of six that the meat and poultry processor shuttered during a tumultuous year.
Cal-Maine announced it would acquire the facility at the end of December 2023, and it plans to remodel and repurpose the complex for use in shell egg and egg products production. Tyson announced the facility would be closed during its third-quarter earnings announcement in August 2023.
In the release, Sherman Miller, president and CEO of Cal-Maine, said the company was pleased to join the Dexter community and excited about being able to expand operations.
“We intend to partner with the existing strong network of local contract growers who can support our shell egg production capabilities,” he said. Miller additionally lauded Dexter’s central geographic location and strong workforce, noting that the company was looking forward to new production opportunities, including the potential for additional free-range capacity.
