Richardson International, owner of the Wesson line of oils, plans to invest $220 million to replace and modernize its Richardson Oilseed Products (US) Ltd. operations in Memphis, Tenn. The multi-phase project will create a new, state-of-the-art oil refining plant that will modernize and increase output. The Memphis facility produces Wesson brand oil for international retail markets, in addition to frying blends and shortenings for industrial and foodservice markets.
The company says the new facility will significantly increase production and refining capacity when finished, and it will also lead to reductions in water and energy use, and wastewater volume. Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Richardson has made investments in two of its Canadian operations to expand production in recent years as well.
