Suspended Flavors Make Chocolate Better for You

CocoaPlanet's dark chocolates are low in calories, sugar and net carbs made with all-natural and mostly organic ingredients.

CocoaPlanet, Sonoma, Calif., markets a namesake line of healthy premium dark chocolates that are low in calories, sugar and net carbs. “More Taste, Less Sugar” is CocoaPlanet’s tagline. The chocolates are targeted to the growing number of consumers who are looking for diabetic dietary solutions and better-for-you treats to assist with weight management.

Each CocoaPlanet chocolate has less than 100 calories and 9 net carbs. This is achieved by making wafers using 64 percent cocoa and employing patent-pending technology that suspends drops of filling throughout the wafer. The result is 15 percent filling versus 60 percent to 80 percent filling found in most flavor-filled chocolates. This helps keep calories and net carbs low.

These chocolates are also made with all-natural and mostly organic ingredients. They are gluten free, kosher and Non-GMO Project Verified. Flavors are: Salted Caramel, CocoaMint, Deep Dark Truffle, Mandarin Orange and Vanilla Espresso. All the flavors can be made into hot chocolate by melting them in a half cup of warm milk and stirring.

“Just because a chocolate tastes decadent doesn’t mean it can’t be healthy,” according to Anne McKibben, the company’s founder. “By distributing flavored fillings throughout the chocolate, you get a rich flavor experience with much less filling.”
