Marathon motors
Several additions to the Marathon motor line of products extends the horsepower range of the line to 100 hp. Black Max motors are designed for inverter or vector applications where a torque speed range of up to 1000:1 is required. They are available from 1/4 to 30 hp. Blue Max 2000 vector-duty motors are available from 40 to 100 hp and are designed for inverter or vector applications. Blue Chip XRI inverter-duty motors are available from 40 to 100 hp and meet NEMA premium efficiencies. All Marathon motors carry a three-year warranty. AutomationDirect; Cumming, Ga.800-633-0405; www.automationdirect.com.Takes a soakingThe WF2-NSF is a sensorless vector drive designed for rugged, constant-torque applications and washdowns. It is certified by National Sanitation Foundation, is compliant with the Baking Industry Standards Committee and meets the FDA’s stringent requirements for use in the Food Area Splash Zone. It’s available in 1 hp, 115 VAC (230 VAC output), 1-15 hp at 200/230 VAC and 1-20 hp at 380/460 and 575 VAC. It’s easy to clean, has no exposed fan and a wide seal on the cover. Variable torque ratings are available.TB Wood’s; Chambersburg, Pa.717-264-7161; www.tbwoods.com.NEMA 4X enclosureA new addition to the Patriot series, the MC10-PCM drive is housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure and can control DC motors up to 2 hp. This model, with front-end signal isolation, accepts any 0-10 V or 1-5 mA reference signal. Shunt resistor terminals are provided in case a 4-20 mA or other current signal is used. It has current and power limit LEDs, line fuses and inhibit pins for remote start/stop control.Minarik Drives; South Beloit, Ill.800-646-2745; www.minarikdrives.comPackaged for the food industry
A “food industry option package” has been added to the manufacturer’s motor and drive product lineup. Features of the reducer include FT gear boxes in nonsymmetrical stainless steel, the use of synthetic food-grade oil, a multilayered stainless steel coating, stainless steel oil level plug and nameplate and PTFE seals. The motor has a fully encapsulated inverter-duty stator and conduit box, food industry-approved connection cable, multilayered coating and motor sizes in 0.75, 1, 1.5 and 2 hp. SEW Eurodrive; Lyman, S.C.864-439-8792; www.seweurodrive.comEasy installation, start-upWith a control panel modeled after a cell-phone, the ACS550 DriveIT low-voltage AC drives are intuitive and simple to set up. They combine simplicity, convenience, fieldbus connectivity, harmonic mitigation and programmability. The drives’ 1 to 550 horsepower range and multiple modes of motor control provide users wide flexibility across the full range of food and beverage applications. They are particularly suited to running motors on water and cream pumps, conveyors, mixers/agitators and kiln fans.ABB Inc.; New Berlin, Wis.262-780-5141; www.abb.com.Configured for driveThe F7 AC drive, already a proven workhorse for many applications, is now available with numerous configured options. It brings precise control and advanced features to applications from simple conveyors to sophisticated networked machine control. Drive configurations include input breakers, disconnects or fuses, input/output reactors, a variety of feedback cards, network communications, custom drive software, NEMA 12 enclosures and dynamic braking. Applications include conveyors, grinders, centrifuges, packaging and food and beverage processing.Yaskawa Electric; New Berlin, Wis..800-927-5292; www.drives.comExpanding stainless offerings
New sizes and options have been added to the company’s line of stainless steel speed reducers and gearmotors. Six new sizes are available with input horsepower ratings up to 17 hp, ratios to 3600:1 and offered with either solid or hollow output shafts to meet your needs. All 316 stainless steel exteriors are completely noncorrosive and include cast stainless steel housing, seals, shims, nameplate, hardware and shafts. They are sealed and lubed for life so water stays out and oil stays in. Ideal for heavy washdown and caustic environments. All units meet BISCC and USDA standards. Power-matched stainless steel motors also available.Grove Gear Div.; Union Grove, Wis.262-878-1221; www.grovegear.comServo drives maintain sterilityThe first use of new PacDrive SCL integral servo motor/drive technology was incorporated in a Krones packaging machine that debuted at a European trade show earlier this year. To meet the stringent requirements of cold aseptic packaging, the new design includes purpose-built servos mounted on the rotating carousel and used for the closing head drives. Servo automation enables rapid changeovers and consistent capping torques. The servo system relocates the cam support and closing element below the bottle mouth and to the inside of the bottle axis. Only the washable chuck, spring package and rejector are located above the bottles. Integrating drive and motor in a unique trapezoidal form factor, the servos overcome the space restrictions and complexity of connecting stationary servo drives to motors on a rotating machine member.Elau Inc., Schaumburg, Ill.773-342-8400; www.elau.com
