Colorful advice from Food Biz Kids' flavorists
Popcorn Gallery Gourmet Popcorn The Popcorn Gallery, Lima, Ohio Varieties: Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Green Apple, Blue Raspberry, Bubblegum Ana Grahovac, 7th grade:The packaging is really great because you get one bag with little bags inside it. The flavors are packaged separately and are in Ziploc bags. The packaging is pretty appealing because it catches your eye. The colors are bright and they make you want to try them. On the front there is a nice clear label that states the name. Bubblegum tastes too sweet. I don't think bubblegum is the right flavor for popcorn. Blue Raspberry is actually pretty good , not too sweet and not too salty. Green Apple is a little too sour. Popcorn is supposed to be salty. Peanut Butter is the best flavor. It tastes a little like caramel so it doesn't have an unusual taste in my mouth. I love the Chocolate. It isn't very sweet but isn't salty either. The popcorn has a smooth glaze over it. It's bumpy and much smoother than regular popcorn. I think this is necessary. It tastes great and if you can have cheesy popcorn and caramel popcorn, why not Green Apple popcorn?Bryan Flores, 7th grade:The packaging looks fine for resealing. The taste is good for all flavors except Bubblegum; it tastes horrible. The rest taste fine and the texture is OK. The popcorn is good to go, but change the Bubblegum flavor. Sean Bostrom, 7th grade:If you're trying to sell this to kids, it doesn't look that fun. You should have more colors on the outside. It's pretty good the first five bites, but then it just starts to taste nasty and the smell is nauseating. Texture is almost the same as regular popcorn except it's sticky, and a ton of parents won't like that. It's not at all necessary. It's very stupid, and if the price is high, it would be even worse. If people wanted all these flavors, they could buy their own candy, such as Skittles and Tarts.Mike Sperling, 7th grade:The packaging is quite easy to open. The Ziploc bags w/popcorn inside make it convenient to take them to school for lunch or to eat on the run. I like the Green apple because of its tasty, mellow apple flavor. I think the Bubblegum tastes like cherry lollipops. The Blue Raspberry is unappealing to me because its flavor is too mellow. I find the Peanut Butter quite appealing due to the fact that it tastes like Cocoa Pebbles. I enjoy eating the Chocolate because of its bold flavor. But I dislike the way the Blue Raspberry and Green Apple turns your teeth blue or green. I like the crunchy, bumpy texture. I think this product is necessary for popcorn lovers.David Blechman, 7th grade:This product is very interesting. It is colorful, sweet and has a huge popcorn crunch! It is sure good. I think the packaging is OK; it should be more colorful. It should appeal to kids; but kids, this food will really rot your teeth out.  Ray C. Russell, 7th grade:I love the packaging; it's very elaborate. All of the flavors are good to me except Bubblegum. The taste reminds me of Jolly Rancher coating. The flavors are out of the ordinary; that's why I like it.Leron Gray, 7th grade:The packaging looks good; (packs) are small and all flavors are separate. Bubblegum tastes like Nyquil. The other flavors all taste the same to me. It feels smooth in the mouth and crunchy. I think this should go on the market because it is ready.Wayne Harris, 7th grade:I like the way they pack the popcorn; it looks nice and clear. It tastes pretty good, but it doesn't taste like regular popcorn. I think they should make it because someone could say, ,'I want colorful popcorn.'Holli Lappen, 7th grade:When I first glanced at the multicolored popcorn, I though my eyes were fooling me. Have I ever seen brightly colored sugary popcorn? No. But this sugary/salty snack was surprisingly good. The texture is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The taste is comparable to kettle corn, with a not too sweet, not too salty taste. Peanut Butter is my particular favorite. The Bubblegum is a little too strong and almost tastes like cough syrup and Green Apple doesn't seem to complement the popcorn very well. This product is very creative and fun, although the packaging could be more appealing. All in all, this is a delicious and colorful treat and I would definitely buy this in a supermarket. If you have a new product you want to test on our 7th- and 8th-grade panelists, contact Diane Toops at [email protected], or (630) 467-1300, ext. 321.
