Infographic: Food Industry Is Ready for FSMA Compliance

Sept. 19 marked the beginning of the FDA’s enforcement phase of rules surrounding the Food Safety Modernization Act (companies with fewer than 500 employees have until September 2017, and those with less than $1 million in annual sales of human food have until September 2018). While there is understandable trepidation and uncertainty about the specific changes food and beverage processors must make to comply, most large operations believe they are well prepared.

To gauge overall readiness and ascertain the specific concerns of processors, PMMI — The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies — surveyed 47 stakeholders to determine the desirable machine features they are focused on and the challenges they see, from documentation to establishment of a foreign supplier verification program (FSVP).
