Infographic: What Consumers Look For When Buying Food Products

Consumers are checking packaged food and beverage labels when they shop. The Hartman Group's report, 'Organic & Natural 2014' reveals the top descriptors consumers look for.

Today's consumers are aware of the personal, social, environmental and health consequences of the foods they consume. That's why at least six in 10 consumers look for labels and descriptions that speak to "fresh," clean" and "free-from" ingredients, less processing and natural aspects of food. The Hartman Group's latest food infographic shows the top 11 descriptors consumers check for, with 81 percent of the group studied opting for the word, "fresh." Antiobiotic-free and pasteurized both came in last, but with 56 percent of the vote.
