Case Study Corner: Co-Production and Automation Best Practices
April 11, 2012
I enjoy a good case study. When I come across one, I become enthralled by all of the possibilities for innovation that lay before me.
It just so happens that I came across not one, but several case studies lately that I wanted to share.
I enjoy a good case study. When I come across one, I become enthralled by all of the possibilities for innovation that lay before me.
It just so happens that I came across not one, but several case studies lately that I wanted to share. General Mills' Co-Production Case Study General Mills reports on its Taste of General Mills corporate blog an innovative take on co-production. Its Pillsbury team sought an open innovation partner to help create and assemble a homemade-style biscuit sandwich for its Grands! Biscuit Sandwiches.
Pillsbury's R&D team could create the biscuit dough; however, the plants had limited capacity. After a visit to Pennsylvania-based Better Baked Foods, a match was made; however, timing prevented the product from happening at that time. Fast forward several months and timing was on both companies' sides.
In September 2010, both Better Baked Foods and Pillsbury were ready to move forward with developing the biscuit sandwiches.
In less than two weeks, Better Baked Foods’ technical capabilities were paired with Pillsbury's product development innovations and the Pillsbury Grands! Biscuit Sandwiches were born.
Endress+Hauser Case Study Library FoodProcessing.com partner Endress+Hauser recently added more case studies to its case study library. If you're an automation fan or a technology geek like I am, you'll appreciate the myriad case studies that show some of the company's product application success stories for food processors. I confess, there is a lot I need to learn about the finer points of food processing equipment and industry processes. I often refer to this case study library for information about what's what. You can check out the library, too, on their website.
