Food, beverage and consumer products manufacturers anticipate that they will eliminate four billion pounds of packaging waste nationwide between 2005 and 2020, according to survey research by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA). Surveys conducted by McKinsey & Co. and Georgetown Economic Services found that more than 1.5 billion pounds have already been saved since 2005 (including 800 million pounds of plastic and more than 500 million pounds of paper).
