Oscar celebration treat for everyone

Wolfgang Puck returns for his 16th year to cater The Oscars' official after-party, otherwise known as The Academy Awards Governors Ball, reports Grub Street. Puck will bring brilliant pastry chef Sherry Yard with him, along with 15 pounds of gold dust, 25 gallons of cocktail sauce, 1,000 pounds of salmon, 2,000 sesame miso cones, 4,800 eggs, 7,200 shrimp, and 50,000 baby veggies to feed 1,500 guests.

Read it and weep. Appetizers include: Spicy Tuna in Sesame Miso Cone, Mini Kobe Cheeseburgers with Remoulade, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Assorted Pizzas, Brandade Fritters, Smoked White Fish and Taro Root Taco, Tempura Shrimp, Wasabi Pea Crusted Crabcake with Mango and Thai Basil, Potsticker with Ginger Black Vinegar Dipping Sauce Toro with Crispy Rice and Yuzu. Main courses include crispy Potato Galatte, Smoked Salmon, Dill Cream and Baby Greens, Organic Chicken Pot Pie, Back Truffles and Root Vegetables, and dessert will wow them when they feast on "L'Etoile de Oscar," Baked Alaska with Espresso Glace and Guittard Chocolate Sorbet 24 Carat Chocolate Oscar.

Then again, the classic movie theater treat - popcorn -- is a natural for Oscar parties elsewhere this weekend. It has gotten so glammed up that it is making cameos on menus in high-end restaurants, reports the Baltimore Sun. One bistro serves popcorn cooked in duck fat and adorns it with truffle oil and truffle sea salt, another restaurant spices it up with sriracha, a Vietnamese chilli sauce, and tosses it into a spinach salad in a Canton eatery, and it is even served in a Cuban ceviche. Popcorn as a side to a corn dog is also catching on in one establishment.

Popcorn is also going Hollywood at home with multicolored, organic "heirloom" varieties topped with a variety of spice blends. But no one with a microwave needs to feel left out. If you are not among the nominees at the Oscars, watch the show on TV, followed by your favorite film. And don't forget your favorite movie treat -- popcorn, whatever flavor it might be.
