PHOs, artificial dyes, artificial flavors and HFCS to go between late 2015 and 2017.
Schwan Food Co. on Oct. 21 announced a commitment to eliminating four ingredient groups from its broad food portfolio with the goal of making foods with more familiar ingredients.
On the way out are:
Partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) and artificial trans fats. The company eliminated added trans fats from the vast majority of foods leading up to 2007. It will eliminate all PHOs by the end of 2015.
Artificial (certified) dyes -- by the end of 2015.
High-fructose corn syrup -- by the end of 2016.
Artificial flavors -- by the end of 2017.
"These changes are being made while maintaining consumer expectations for taste and quality," the company said.
"We will continue to evaluate our ingredient lists to ensure we are satisfying consumer expectations,” said CEO Dimitrios Smyrnios.
The commitment plans to eliminate these ingredient groups from Schwan-branded foods sold by every subsidiary of Schwan Food Co., including Schwan’s Home Service, Schwan’s Consumer Brands and Schwan’s Food Service.
