The U.S. Senate approves a large overhaul to food safety laws.

On November 30, the Senate approved the biggest overhaul to the nation's food safety laws since the 1930s. With a vote of  73 to 25, the food safety bill will give much more authority to the Food and Drug Administration; place contamination prevention responsibilities on farmers and food companies; and set safety standards for imported foods.
