Coca-Cola Co. moved up two notches to displace Sony as “best brand,” at least in the eyes of 2,372 people surveyed by Harris Interactive's annual poll. Kraft and Pepsi Cola placed sixth and seventh respectively, the only other food brands on the Top 10 list.

Harris surveyed 2,372 U.S. adults online June 5-11, asking them to consider the brands of products and services they were familiar with and name the three they considered the best. Respondents were not suggested a list of brand names. Harris tallied the number of times brands were mentioned and used those figures for the ranking.

Sony held the top spot for seven straight years. Last year Dell was second and Coca-Cola was third.

Toyota Motor Corp. inched up to third place from fourth in 2006. Kraft has been on the list since 2002 and placed second in 2003 and fourth in 2004, although it was ninth last year. Pepsi has appeared on the list three previous times, including two 10th-place showings and a seventh-place in 2002. But it has not made the list since 2003.

Brands that fell out of the top 10 include Hewlett-Packard Co. (seventh last year) and General Electric Co. (eighth in 2006).
