World's Biggest Creme Brulee Wins Guiness Records

Feb. 14, 2005
On February 12, 2005, at least 35 of Orlando Culinary Academy's chefs and students assembled the world's largest Creme Brulee for some 300 visitors.

Lots of organizations have bake sales to raise money, but the Orlando (Fla.) Culinary Academy recently qualified for a Guinness World Record in the process.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, more than 35 of the Academy's chefs and students assembled the world's largest Creme Brulee for some 300 visitors. Admission was free, but samples of the dessert were sold for $5, with proceeds going toward scholarship funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida.

The dessert topped out at 26 feet in diameter, weighed 1,600 pounds and was estimated to have two million calories. (The previous record was held by a 20-foot-diameter Creme Brulee made in 1999 in California.) The recipe included 4,000 eggs, 125 pounds of sugar, 115 gallons of cream, 19 gallons of milk and 1 gallon of vanilla extract. Chefs used an industrial blowtorch to caramelize the Creme Brulee's sugar-coated surface.
