B&G Foods, owner of the Green Giant brand, has purchased Farmwise LLC, an innovator in frozen vegetable-based side dishes and snacks. The deal was made with B&G’s cash on hand, and terms were not disclosed.

Farmwise’s flagship products are Veggie Fries, Veggie Tots and Veggie Rings. They’re healthier alternatives to French fries, tater tots and onion rings, made mostly with cauliflower, onions and navy beans.

B&G was 65th on Food Processing’s 2019 list of Top 100 food companies, with $1.7 billion in sales in 2018. Its last major acquisition was baking products manufacturer Clabber Girl last May.

“We are excited to increase our great tasting, plant-based product offerings with the acquisition of Farmwise,” Jordan Greenberg, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of B&G Foods, said in a statement. “Dave and Cristina Peters, the founders of Farmwise, have done a tremendous job developing delicious, plant-based products, including Veggie Fries, Veggie Tots and Veggie Rings, that both parents and children love. We look forward to further supporting the Farmwise brand in the natural channel while also introducing items that Farmwise has developed into new, innovative product offerings for our Green Giant brand.”
