Tyson Foods has sold its Golden Island jerky brand to Jack Link’s Inc., which has closed the Golden Island production facility in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
Golden Island started in Taiwan during World War II and moved to the United States in 1981, making jerky with Asian flavors like Kung Pao and Korean Barbecue. It had operated in the Rancho Cucamonga plant since 1997. Golden Island was bought in 2013 by Hillshire Farms, which was in turn bought by Tyson the following year.
About 371 Golden Island workers lost their jobs after the plant closed. Jack Link’s, the leading U.S. jerky processor, will maintain production of existing Golden Island products at a plant in South Dakota.
