Foster Farms has become one of the first food processors to deliver COVID vaccines to its workers onsite, at its facility in Fresno, Calif.

Fresno County has allotted the chicken processing company enough doses of the Moderna vaccine to cover all of the approximately 1,000 employees at the plant. About 85% of the employees have signed up for the shots, and the company hopes to persuade the rest to do so.

Foster Farms developed a vaccination site at the plant capable of handling 250 vaccinations a day. The shots are administered by personnel from pharmacies at Vons, a supermarket chain owned by Albertsons Cos.

A superintendent at the plant told the local ABC station that his daughter and sister-in-law both contracted COVID, and the sister-in-law didn’t survive. He said the virus has infected hundreds of his co-workers at the plant.
