On Saturday, July 24, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Local 218 voted in favor of Frito-Lay’s contract offer. Though a vote-count wasn't readily available, Mark McCarter, the Union Steward for the BCTWGM, confirmed the strike is over.
The strike, which started on July 5, centered around working conditions for the members of the Topeka, KS plant.
The offer from Frito-Lay provides a guaranteed day off during each work week, eliminates “squeeze shifts,” creates additional opportunities for the union to have input into staffing and overtime and offers 4% wage increases to employees in all job classifications over the two-year contract.
