Keurig Dr Pepper has agreed to cut its use of virgin plastic for packaging by 20% by 2025. That's according to As You Sow, a nonprofit organization that promotes corporate social responsibility.

The reduction in single use plastic comes after a report indicated Keurig Dr Pepper used 208,000 metric tons of plastic packing in 2018. As You Sow had filed shareholder proposals with 10 consumer good companies—including PepsiCo, KraftHeinz, and Mondelez—calling for reductions in the use of plastic packaging.

The beverage company has pledged to convert to 100% recyclable or compostable packaging by 2025. It informed As You Sow it intends to achieve the 20% virgin plastic reduction goal as well.

Keurig Dr Pepper is the third company agree to reducing its use of virgin plastic. According to a release, PepsiCo plans to reduce virgin plastic across its business units while Mondelez has agreed to a 5% reduction in virgin plastic use, including a 25% cut in virgin plastic for its rigid plastic packaging.
