Boulder Canyon Foods expands its popular kettle-cooked potato chip line with Coconut Oil Kettle Cooked Potato Chips. Made with just three simple ingredients -- potatoes, coconut oil and sea salt -- the chips are cooked using Boulder’s small-batch kettle method.
“We’ve introduced a number of chips cooked in premium oils in the past year, including olive and avocado oils, so we felt coconut oil was really the next frontier,” says Steve Sklar, senior vice president and general manager for Boulder Canyon Authentic Foods. “In this case, the coconut oil imparts a subtle flavor that isn’t so much sweet as it is buttery and rich. At the same time, the finish is incredibly light and clean. We touch it with just a hint of sea salt so as not to mask any of the natural flavors, and the result is a potato chip that is different than anything you can find in the snack food aisle today.”
Boulder’s kettle-cooked approach provides 22 percent less fat when compared to traditional continuous-cooking methods. Additionally, coconut oil features better-for-you monounsaturated fatty acids. The chips have a suggested retail price of $3.49-3.99 per 5.25-oz. package.
