Hormel Hopes to Improve a Healthy Breakfast with Compleats Good Mornings
Definitions of breakfast might vary in terms of time of day consumed and the composition of the meal. But one thing every breakfast has in common is that it is the time when prolonged fasting ceases. That’s how the meal gets its name: It’s when one breaks the fast. Though most consumers recognize the importance of the first meal of the day, many have a difficult time choosing wisely, as time restraints and commuting challenges often prevent consumption of a healthful kick-start meal.
Hormel Foods Corp., Austin, Minn., is hoping to help change that with the addition of Compleats Good Mornings shelf-stable meals. Sold in the ambient canned and packaged meal aisle, the new heat-and-eat breakfast options come in four varieties: Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal, Bacon Breakfast Scramble, Sausage Breakfast Scramble and Sausage Gravy & Roasted Potatoes. The heart-healthy oatmeal is the only fat-free option. The single serving contains 160 calories and 2g of protein. The other three varieties contain 350 calories, 25-26g of fat and 10-20g of protein, depending on variety. The two scramble offerings are made with about two eggs each, according to a callout on the package.
The 7.5-oz. package retails for $1.99-2.49.
