Los Angeles-based ViSalus introduced Vi Crunch Protein Super Cereal, a patent-pending, high-protein, high-fiber cereal. A 0.75 cup (45g) serving of the cereal is packed with 12g of the company’s proprietary Fi-Sorb protein blend, which includes brown rice protein, milk protein concentrate, oat bran (also a source of fiber), whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. The last is a source of branched-chain amino acids, most notably leucine, for healthy tissue growth and repair.
A serving also contains 5g of fiber, including the prebiotic inulin, which supports digestive health, heart health, immune function and mineral absorption, according to the company. Together, the protein and fiber provide a feeling of fullness, which assists with weight loss and weight management. Another key attribute is that a serving only contains 3g of sugar. Sweetness comes from evaporated cane sugar, stevia extract and the company’s signature sweet cream flavor, which is used in its protein shake mixes.
Along with the cereal comes a new concept: Vi Crunch Fusions. Available in two flavors, Chocolate Macadamia Granola (chocolate-flavored granola with green coffee bean extract, a source of antioxidants) and Tri-Berry Puffs (phytonutrient-rich blueberry, raspberry and strawberry yogurt-coated rice puffs), Vi Crunch Fusions can be enjoyed right out of the package as a snack or sprinkled on a bowl of cereal or cup of yogurt.
