Plant Closings for Tyson and Dean Foods

Closings eliminate nearly 190 jobs

According to local news reports, dairy processor Dean Foods Co. will close a dairy processing plant in Belleville, Pa. About 80 people will lose their jobs when the former Fairmont Products plant closes. It manufactures mostly cottage cheese and ice cream.

Tyson Foods Inc. is consolidating meat operations by closing its York, Neb., plant, causing the elimination of 110 jobs. The York plant produces some uncooked steaks, sliced beef and pork items and the Shaved Steak brand for various retail and foodservice customers. Tyson plans to move some of the equipment from York to the Emporia, Kan., plant, which employs more than 700 people.
