Cargill Arkansas Plant Resumes Ground Turkey Production

Food manufacturer Cargill recently resumed production of its ground turkey products after a recent recall of 36 million pounds of ground turkey. The voluntary recall was done after the Centers for Disease Control had detected a number of salmonella-related illnesses.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently gave Cargill approval to resume production at the Springdale, Arkansas plant.

As part of its ongoing food safety process, Cargill:

• Disassembled and steam cleaned its equipment.
• Put an aggressive monitoring and testing program in place.
• Added two antibacterial measures to those already in place while also requiring its Springdale suppliers to use comparable antibacterial technology.

According to the company, they have also established an independent panel of scientific experts to go over the plant with a fine-toothed comb.
