EPA Recognizes PepsiCo With Sustainability Award

The Environmental Protection Agency will present PepsiCo with its 2011 Partner of the Year With Sustained Excellence award on April 12, 2011.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized PepsiCo as a 2011 Partner of the Year with Sustained Excellence. This awared is considered one of the highest awards offered. PepsiCo will be recognized at an awards ceremony on April 12, 2011.

According to a release, the award recognizes PepsiCo for its continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency.  PepsiCo has been an ENERGY STAR partner since 2004, and is being recognized as a Partner of the Year for the fifth consecutive year, and with "Sustained Excellence" for the fourth consecutive year.  

PepsiCo is constantly working to address the issue of climate change.

The company is on track to meet the goals it announced in April 2010 to reduce PepsiCo's carbon footprint in its operations, including:

  • Improving electricity use efficiency by 20 percent per unit of production by 2015
  • Reducing fuel use intensity by 25 percent per unit of production by 2015
  • Committing to a goal of reducing greenhouse gas intensity for U.S. operations by 25 percent through a partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Climate Leaders program
  • Committing to an absolute reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across global operations.

Rob Schasel, Director, Energy and Resource Conservation at PepsiCo commented, "As a global food and beverage business, PepsiCo, and its global associates, recognize our responsibility to minimize the impact we have on the environment."
