Endress+Hauser opens $18 million U.S. flowmeter facility

June 15, 2009

Endress+Hauser, a global instrumentation company, on June 4 unveiled a new, $18 million production and calibration facility for flowmeters at its U.S. headquarters in Greenwood, Ind.

The new facility is dedicated to production of electromagnetic flowmeters, although in doing so it also enables the expansion of Coriolis, vortex and ultrasonic flow measurement devices in an adjacent building.

It also places a big emphasis on calibration and can claim two unique assets. The new facility houses the largest calibration rig in the U.S., capable of calibrating instruments up to 48 in. diameter. A different calibration rig, which calibrates Coriolis meters to 0.05 percent, claims to be the most accurate rig for mass meters in the world and is used to certify E+H’s Premium Cal line to 0.015 percent accuracy.

“Deviations in measurement accuracy can have a big impact for customers,” said Hans-Peter Blaser, managing director of Endress+Hauser Flowtec’s U.S. division. “Accurate measurement is essential to quality. If the measurement isn’t accurate, the customer may waste product or expensive ingredients required in the process.”

Both may seem a little extreme for the food industry, but the overall manufacturing abilities will benefit food and beverages. The company claims to have supplied 95 percent of the instrumentation in the newly opened Nestle Beverages plant in Anderson, Ind., and it has a contract to maintain and calibrate all flow instruments there.
