Coca-Cola is committed to recycling plastic bottles but won’t stop using them.

Coca-Cola is committed to recycling plastic bottles but won’t stop using them, the company’s head of sustainability said at the recent Davos Economic Forum in Switzerland.

Bea Perez told the Davos audience that Coca-Cola realizes that it has to be “part of the solution” of plastic waste, but has no plans to stop using single-serve plastic bottles. Perez argued that consumers like them and "business won't be in business if we don't accommodate consumers.” She also contended that alternative packaging materials like glass and aluminum have a higher carbon footprint than plastic.

Perez said that Coca-Cola is committed to sweeping sustainability goals that include recycling as many plastic bottles as it uses by the year 2030. The BBC reports that the company uses about 3 million tons of plastic packaging a year.
