Coca-Cola, USDA Renew Partnership to Restore Forest, Grassland Watersheds in U.S.
The Coca-Cola Co. and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) renewed a 10-year partnership to restore and improve watersheds on national forests and grasslands nationwide, according to a release by the USDA.
The partnership began in 2013 and has since led to the restoration of nearly 900 acres of watersheds and replenishment of more than 634 million gallons of water on forests and grasslands. Twenty-five projects in nine states have restored more than 14 miles of streams, reconnected 17 miles of river and 62 acres of lakes, as well as treated more than 450 acres of invasive weeds — with a key role in coordination of these projects played by the National Forest Foundation.
The Coca-Cola Co. and the Coca-Cola Foundation have contributed more than $2.6 million to the partnership, and along with Swire Coca-Cola, the trio has contributed nearly $900,000 of funding toward projects implemented in 2023 in Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico, specifically. Along with partner and USDA funding, the work conducted under the life of the partnership so far has surpassed $5 million, the report says.
