PepsiCo Partners With Beyond Meat

The two companies announce a partnership to develop snacks and beverages made from plant-based proteins.

PepsiCo and Beyond Meat announced The PLANeT Partnership, in which the two companies "will develop, produce and market snacks and beverages made from plant-based protein — bringing together Beyond Meat’s innovation expertise with PepsiCo’s marketing and commercial capabilities."

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, nor were any examples of the products to come of it. It is worth noting that PepsiCo produces beef jerky under the Matador brand. Every Frito-Lay product is made from plants, although they aren't particularly high in protein.

“We look forward to combining their unparalleled expertise with our world-class capabilities in brand-building, consumer insights and distribution,” said Ram Krishnan, PepsiCo Global Chief Commercial Officer.

Beyond Meat, of course, is maker of the Beyond Burger — which is not the plant burger at Burger Kings (the Impossible Burger is) and, even after what was termed a successful test at McDonald's outlets early last year, may not be the McPlant burger rumored to be launched any day now.

The Beyond Burger recently began selling at grocery stories, and the company has other meat analogue products that are available at approximately 122,000 locations in more than 80 countries, today's press release said.

“With PepsiCo’s unmatched reach and distribution, we’ll be able to accelerate bringing these products to markets around the world as we provide more consumers with the nutritional and environmental benefits of plant-based protein,” said Ethan Brown, Beyond Meat founder and CEO.
