Stevia Nearly Approved For Use As A Food Ingredient In European Union

Aug. 24, 2011
Wild Flavors GmbH is moving forward with its Stevia solution after the Standing Committee of the European Commission offers initial approval.

Wild Flavors is promoting the broader use of Stevia after the Standing Committee of the European Commission recommended approval of high purity stevia for use as a food ingredient throughout the European Union.

According to the company, its Stevia solutions do not contain sugar alcohols, which can  have a cooling sensation, can be difficult to dissolve and have a high cost-in-use in many applications.

The final sanction for the use of stevia glycosides by the EU is anticipated for November or December 2011.
