Mikawaya, the company that originated mochi ice cream in the U.S. in the 1990s, is introducing MyMo mochi ice cream. Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made with a short-grain glutinous rice that is pounded into paste and molded into the desired shape. MyMo uses this sweet dough to enrobe a small, round ice cream ball.

MyMo comes in seven flavors: Cookies & Cream, Double Chocolate, Green Tea, Mint Chocolate Chip, Ripe Strawberry, Sweet Mango and Vanilla Bean. Each dumpling-sized treat contains around 110 calories and is sold six to a box. The company has already successfully introduced MyMo in nearly 200 stores in about a dozen markets coast to coast and plans to roll out distribution to major retail chains and foodservice outlets in 2017. Mochi ice cream is emerging as one of the top new food trends in the U.S. The consumers that MyMo is being marketing to are looking for new, interesting treats and want to share that discovery with their family and friends.
