As you can see in the excerpt above, Michael McCain’s tweets said he was “very angry” and “livid” over Iran’s downing on Jan. 8 of a Ukranian International Airlines jet in Iranian airspace, killing 176 people. The incident followed a heightening of tensions after a U.S drone strike killed a top Iranian general in Iraq on Jan. 3. Iran claims it mistook the airliner for a cruise missile.

In a series of tweets, McCain said he was distraught because the wife and 11-year-old son of a business colleague were killed aboard that plane. He blames the situation on “a narcissist in Washington [who] tears world accomplishments apart.”

McCain goes on to say: “The collateral damage of this irresponsible, dangerous, ill-conceived behavior? 63 Canadians needlessly lost their lives in the crossfire, including the family of one of my MLF colleagues (his wife + 11 year old son)! We are mourning and I am livid.”

Replies on McCain’s Twitter thread seem evenly divided between support, like “The majority of us in the USA are mortified by our reckless president. We know he is a danger not only to Americans but to the world,” and criticism like “You are livid at the wrong person. Stop exploiting your friend’s death to help the Democrat party.”
