Mars Wrigley Confectionery says it will base its U.S. headquarters in New Jersey by the summer of 2020, but says its world headquarters will remain in its existing Chicago location. "Expanding in New Jersey will enable the continued growth of our U.S. business," said Berta de Pablos Barbier, president of Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S.
The state of New Jersey recently approved a 10-year, $31-million tax enticement for the company.
The maker of M&M’s, Snickers and Skittles on Dec. 5 announced it will operate from existing offices in Hackettstown and open a new space in Newark. Mars operated in Newark when M&M’s were created as military rations in 1941. The company also has deep roots and operations in Hackettstown since moving to the community in 1958 to accommodate growth.
Yet the company stated it will continue to have a significant footprint employing thousands of associates across Chicago and Illinois, including Mars Wrigley Confectionery’s global headquarters and several manufacturing sites.
