Italian Espresso Machine Going Into Space

A modified Lavazza machine will keep astronauts on the space station caffeinated.

The SpaceX supply shuttle was supposed to make history today, but its launch was scrubbed because of inclement weather. While most think the groundbreaking part of the mission was the eventual attempt to land its main rocket back on a platform in the ocean, the real historic event would have been the first delivery of an espresso maker to astronauts on the International Space Station.

Actually, the Lavazza machine was mostly destined for Samantha Cristoforetti, an Italian astronaut. While reports weren't clear on when she placed her order, the machine was supposed to be delivered back in January, shortly after her arrival on the space station. But it was placed on a back burner, according to one account, after a station shipment from Virginia was lost in a launch explosion.

Apparently there are no Starbucks in space ... yet.
